Pandemic makes Brazil remember of the unbanked
One of the subjects that has been discussed by the Brazilian Central Bank (Bacen) is the financial inclusion in the country, a n essential measure in order to maintain economic growth. To allow the population to proceed purchases in all means desired along with any payment method of choice or available is fundamental. As we have been facing this global pandemic, inclusive payment methods have been facilitating even more the use of e-commerce, making feasible the acquisition of essential products during the social distancing period, as well as streaming services, games and distance education.
As Covid-19 advances worldwide, Brazil seems to remember the 45 million people that hasn’t made any movement in their bank accounts in the last six months or that have chosen to not have one, however, have circulated around R$ 800 billion annually, as provided by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). In order to attend with efficiency to all consumers and provide a better purchase experience to the clients in this difficult time, online stores are being obliged to develop new options of payment in their checkouts.
There is a possibility of social distancing creating even more bank adhesion, especially with the coming of digital banks and e-Wallets, that provide an easier and simplified registration process. However, I believe that offering new alternatives of payment methods is essential so that retailers reach higher numbers of customers, in view of the fact that many don’t have access to credit cards. According to the Locomotiva Institute of Research, paying in cash is the preference of 71% of the Brazilian people in their daily lives. To make this payment method feasible in online shopping seems like the roadmap to success.
In order to prove that it has been already occurring a certain movimentation in the market, PagBrasil has observed an increase of 65% in the number of transactions made in April 2020, in comparison to the last year at the same period. Above all that, the transactions with the Flash payment slip, the only one that can confirm the payment in less than one hour, also peaked during the social distancing period, presenting an increase of 345% in the month mentioned. This data indicates that companies are looking for solutions to guarantee virtual sales and that consumers are demanding even more agility and efficiency in online payment methods.
Regarding Latin America, the Brazilian market is the new most advanced electronic market, with leader technologies in terms of fintechs. For this year, it is expected that e-commerce will rise 18% and reaches à income of R$ 106 billion, according to the Brazilian Association of Electronic Market (ABComm). If the sector is being propelled by Covid-19, to diversify the portfolio and accelerate tendencies during challenging times is possible. Make good use of it.

On this regards, the WiBX project had a head start and today promotes the use of a wallet for the WiBX tokens, in which any Brazilian user can easily download for free and use it as payment method in one of the many establishments that already accept it, for instance supermarkets, bars, and restaurants. In addition, beyond being just a payment method, WiBX can easily be acquired by helping these establishments divulging their offers and promotions.
